Superior Electric offers an extensive line of voltage regulators as part of their WHR Series. WHR Series STABILINE® Automatic Voltage Regulators maintain constant voltage to your equipment, even when the input voltage and system load vary widely.

The post Superior Electric WHR – STABILINE Automatic Voltage Regulator appeared first on Electro-Meters.

Lightning strikes, line disturbances and uneven loads cause disabling transients, spikes, sags and surges. Left unregulated, these conditions will degrade- even destroy sensitive broadcast electronics in receiving stations, studios, mobile production vehicles and transmitter sites. Avoid catastrophic equipment failure, software damage, reduced power tube life and poor signal quality with WHR Voltage Regulators.

STABILINE Automatic Voltage Regulators are designed for use on all AC power systems, up to 660 volts. WHR Series STABILINE Voltage Regulators use standardized control modules, power modules, enclosures, and other options. Control module options include single phase and individual phase control, power circuit options include narrow or wide correction ranges, and enclosure options include floor and rack mount housings. All STABILINE Voltage Regulators are designed and built specifically for regulator use and are currently in operating internationally.

All WHR voltage regulator models utilize our core product technology of special POWERSTAT® Variable Transformers, also uniquely designed for regulator use. POWERSTAT® offers a Limited Range coil design allows for substantially higher current and power ratings without increasing unit size or weight. This is accomplished by utilizing a “limited” portion of the coil windings to provide regulation. The design allows for direct control of the output voltage without the need of secondary devices such as buck/boost transformers and tap switching semiconductors.

STABILINE WHR’s, rated from 2 kVA to 1680 kVA, offer exceptional protection to help broadcast facilities maintain output voltage to ±1% with 99% efficiency. STABILINE regulators automatically feed voltage sensitive equipment a constant voltage level with no waveform distortion, and they have a high overload capacity. Innovative modular construction is key to our ability to offer such a wide variety of regulators with excellent quality, fast delivery and competitive pricing

This POWERSTAT transformer features POWERKOTE coils for longer life, increased ratings, greater overload capacities and better resistance to fungus, salt spray and other contaminating atmospheres. The commutator of the new POWERKOTE coil is embedded in a high temperature material which holds the windings in place, even under severe overloads. As a result, POWERSTAT variable transformer with POWERKOTE coils provide higher output ratings than ordinary variable transformers. To permit maximum utilization of POWERSTAT variable transformer, output ratings are given for both constant current and constant impedance loads. This transformer is suitable for regulate voltage, speed control, lightning control, motor test stands, power supplies applications.

Single, manually operated units have both 3-hole and 4-hole mounting arrangements; all others have the 4-hole mounting. Single units of the 117C and 217C Series and cord-and-plug models of the 116C and 216C Series have dials graduated in volts. Other single units of the 116C and 216C Series and all ganged units have dials graduated 0-100. The angle of rotation from zero to maximum voltage is 317.5°. Open construction models have a letter U suffix in the type number and have the shaft extending from the base end of the assembly for panel mounting. Knobs can also be placed at the radiator end of the assemblies for general utility mounting because the shafts are removable.

The rated output for the 21 Series is 5 amperes for constant current loads and 7 amperes for constant impedance loads. For the 22 Series, the rated output is 2.25 amperes for constant current loads and 3.25 amperes for constant impedance loads. The 21 Series types operate from 120 volt lines and the 22 Series types from 240 volt lines. The tapping arrangement permits an output voltage range of zero to line voltage or zero to 17 percent above line voltage. Voltage drops for loads less than full load are proportional. Driving torque, d-c resistance per coil maximum core and brush loss when operating under no load are given in the chart found in the datasheet.

All manually operated 21 Series units have a 3 3/4 inch (95.3mm) dial graduated 0-100 and an angle of rotation or 320·from the zero to maximum output voltage. Adjustable shafts can be extended from either end of the units, permitting general utility mounting if desired. In addition to the conventional screw-type method of connection, terminal adapters supplied with the units can be quickly mounted on the terminals for use with push-on connectors or soldered connections.
