This simple device plugs into any standard RJ-11 or RJ-45 plug - Selectable panel switch for USOC (Telephone) or 568 (LAN) connections.. The Line-Bug will then tell you if there is a problem, and what the problem is.

Use the convenient Line-Bug 4 to test standard telephone and LAN jacks for connection to telephone systems. This economical device protects your expensive LAN tester by checking RJ-45 LAN lines wired to the 568 A/B standard for damaging telephone line current.

Triplett's Model 9615 has both RJ-11 and RJ-45 style plugs. Four tri-color (red/green/amber) LEDs indicate current, polarity and ringing/ac voltage on each line. Use this tool to test single-, two-, three- or four-line jacks to the USOC (telephone) standard. The RJ-45 test plug is selectable via a front panel switch for USOC (telephone) or 568 (LAN) connection.

Self-powered unit doesn't require batteries. Compact 2.5" x 1.5" size fits in a shirt pocket.

RJ-11 Phone Lines: Plug RJ-11 connector into jack and observe LEDs. Switch position does not effect test.
RJ-45 Phone Lines: Set switch appropriately. (USOC for standard phone or 568 A/B for LAN). Plug RJ-45 connector into jack and observe LEDs. her switch position, voltage is present.
NOTES: Do not plug RJ-11 into RJ-45 jacks. Damage may result. Newer phone lines are often wired to 568 A/B instead of USOC.
LAN Lines:

Some LAN lines have telephone current on previously unused pairs. Pre-testing LAN lines with the Line-Bug 4 before testing with a LAN tester may prevent damage to your LAN tester.
