This CMTS is designed for starters with 12-volt DC motors, direct drive output for up to 12,000 rpm, up to 100 lb·in (11.3 N·m) and 750 amps peak current draw. Starter motors are very powerful for short periods of time and draw very high current.

Aircraft Motor Testing Station

This Customized Motor Test System is designed to test a wide range of electrical motors used on passenger aircraft. Motors to be tested include : flap regulator motors, hydraulic pressure regulator motors and air-cooling motors. With three dynamometer benches, the system enables the user to test motors from 18 mN·m / 7 W to 600 N·m / 24 kW, with speeds up to 30,000 rpm. All three Magtrol dynamometer technologies are employed: Hysteresis, Eddy-current and magnetic powder and are utilized depending on the torque-versus-speed range of the motor(s) to be tested.

Hysteresis Dynamometers

Hysteresis Brake Dynamometers (HD-100, 400 & 500 Series) are versatile and ideal for testing in the low power range (maximum 800 watts intermittent duty). With a Hysteresis Braking system, the Dynamometers do not require speed to create torque, and therefore can provide a full motor ramp from free-run to locked rotor. Brake cooling is provided by convection (no external source) or by compressed air, depending on the model.

Dial Weight Dynamometers

Model HD-700-1 Dynamometer with Model 5400 Speed Readout and Model 5210 Power Supply. The most important characteristic of any measurement instrument is repeatability and accuracy. The Magtrol Dial Weight Dynamometer uses the combination of a Hysteresis Brake and gravity to insure constant, reliable results. The brake torque rise is directly proportional to applied current.

Eddy Current Dynanomters

Eddy-current dynamometer – Model 2 WB 65 Eddy-Current Brake Dynamometers (WB Series) are ideal for applications requiring high speeds and also when operating in the middle to high power range. Eddy-Current Brakes provide increasing torque as the speed increases, reaching peak torque at rated speed. The dynamometers have low inertia as a result of small rotor diameter. Brake cooling is provided by a water circulation system, which passes inside the stator to dissipate heat generated by the braking power.

Open-loop Controller with Display

Magtrol’s Model 6200 is an Open-Loop Dynamometer Controller designed for use with any Magtrol Hysteresis Dynamometer. The unit provides open-loop control of the dynamometer via an internal current regulated power supply. With a high-quality vacuum fluorescent readout, the Model 6200 displays torque, speed and mechanical power values of the motor under test. In place of mechanical power, it can also display auxiliary transducer readings via the ±5 VDC analog input.

High Speed Power Analyzers

The Magtrol 6510e Single-Phase and 6530 Three-Phase Power Analyzers are easy-to-use instruments ideal for numerous power measurement applications. Torque Speed Conditioner

The TSC 401 is the Torque/Speed Conditioner used to connect Magtrol Eddy-Current (WB) or Powder (PB) Dynamometers to the DSP6001 Dynamometer Controller. Powered by the DSP6001, and based on a precision instrumentation amplifier, the unit amplifies and filters the torque signal. It also provides power supply and connections for the speed pickup sensor which is located in the dynamometer.

Direction Indicator

The 5600 is used in conjunction with a Magtrol Hysteresis Dynamometer and Dynamometer Controller to provide a highly visible indication of motor status (running or stopped) and direction of rotation (clockwise or counterclockwise). The built-in LEDs on the front panel may be used as indicators or a 120 VAC lamp of up to 100 watts may be plugged into any or all of the front panel receptacles.To indicate direction of rotation, a circuit monitors the torque signal (both negative and positive) and, at a pre-determined torque level set by a sensitivity potentiometer located on the rear panel, the circuit lights the appropriate LED (CW or CCW).

Manually-Controlled Switch Box

The Model 5500 is a manually operated switch box. This unit will permit the connection of up to three Magtrol Hysteresis Dynamometers to a single Dynamometer Controller and/or Readout. Use of the switch box facilitates quick and easy interfacing of multiple dynamometers without the necessity of disconnecting and reconnecting the brake and control cables. The Model 5500 is supplied with one additional set of interconnecting cables (one two pin brake cable and one 14 pin accessory cable).

Closed-Loop Speed Control/Power Supply

The 6100 is a durable, variable, closed-loop speed control power supply governed by an adjustable proportional/integral (PI) control algorithm for unsurpassed stability in its class. Designed to work with a Magtrol Hysteresis Brake that is specially fitted with a speed pick-up, the 6100 functions as a power supply and also features an easy-to-read digital speed display.

Voltage-Controlled Power Amplifier

The Model 5241 is a voltage-controlled power amplifier designed exclusively for Magtrol’s Model HD-825 Hysteresis Dynamometer. Because of its double braking system, the HD-825 requires more than 4 amps of power in order to reach full torque. The 5241 (which can provide up to 5 amps of output current) is necessary in order to amplify the power between a 6200 or DSP6001 Controller (which both have a maximum current output of 1 amp) and the HD-825 Dynamometer.

Current Regulated Power Supply

The Model 5210 provides the same control capabilities as the 5200, and also provides current regulation of the hysteresis dynamometer brake. With regulated current, the 5210 will eliminate torque drift caused by temperature changes within the dynamometer brake coil. Like the Model 5200, the 5210 does not provide closed loop speed control for testing in unstable operating ranges. The 5210 can be controlled manually from the front panel, or externally from the 0 to 5 VDC input.

DC Power Supply

The Model 5200 is an unregulated 0-35 VDC Power Supply which offers control and regulation of hysteresis dynamometer braking torque via a 10 turn potentiometer. The 5200 is our most basic control for manual testing in an open loop torque control mode. The 5200 will permit testing within the stable operating portion of the performance curve of the motor under test, and will provide sufficient power to lock up the motor under test (subject to the torque limit of the dynamometer).

Dynamometer Power Supply

The DES 310 and DES 311 power supplies are suited to the entire range of Magtrol’s Eddy-Current and Powder Brake Dynamometers. To avoid any disruption of the surrounding electronic modules, the DES 310 / DES 311 supplies are fitted in an industrial housing made of extruded cast aluminum. This housing must be installed directly on the test bench, as near to the dynamometer as possible.The DES 310 / DES 311 supplies can be controlled by analog and digital set-points coming from an electronic peripheral, ideally from Magtrol’s DSP6001 Dynamometer Controller.

Magtrol Load Measuring Pins are used to measure load and force and provide overload protection. The pins are mounted into machines in place of normal shafts and fitted with strain gauges, allowing them to produce a signal proportional to the measured load.

Load Monitoring Units

Magtrol’s Load Monitoring Units are used for measuring load, force and weight from signals generated by strain gauge transducers. Specifically designed for use with Magtrol’s Load Measuring Pins and Load-Force- Weight Sensors, the LMU Series provides excitation voltage while conditioning the bridge output signal. User-defined alarm limits can be programmed, which when combined with our sensors, providing a safe and rugged measurement system that continuously monitors for short-circuits and interrupted signal lines.

In-Line Torque Transducers

For dynamic torque and speed measurement, Magtrol offers the TMB, TM and TMHS Series of high-performance torque meters. All three transducer models employ our unique non-contact differential transformer torque measuring technology. This measuring technology offers many benefits, most notably that no electronic components rotate during operation. Torque Display

Magtrol’s Model 3410 Torque Display is designed for use with all TM, TMHS, TMB and TF Torque Transducers. This easy-to-use device powers the torque meter and utilizes high speed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to display torque, speed and mechanical power. It includes a tare function to help offset any slight residuals caused by couplings or suspended loads. The 3410 may also be used with sensors requiring 24 VDC power (400 mA max.) and have ± 5 VDC torque output (± 10 VDC max.) and TTL speed output.

Hysteresis Clutches

Like the Hysteresis Brake, the Magtrol Hysteresis Clutch develops torque strictly through a magnetic air-gap, ensuring an absolutely smooth transmission of torque from the drive unit to the driven element. Matched Hysterisis Brakes

Magtrol has developed a system to assure that every brake of a given model designation will be matched, at a predetermined torque and current point, to other brakes of the same model designation regardless of material and manufacturing tolerances. Each brake will be matched at the selected match point to within a tolerance of ±1%. The maximum deviation in torque from brake to brake at any point along their torque/ current curve (from 0 torque up to the selected matched torque point) will be less than ±4% of the selected matched torque value.

Permanent Magnetic Brakes & Clutches

Displacement Transducers

DI Series Magtrol’s line of Displacement Transducers provide contactless measurement of absolute piston position in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and other applications. Signal Converter

Rotary Transmitters

Magtrol Rotary Transmitters are used for signal transmission of transducers on a rotating part (e.g. engine shaft) to a stationary system (measuring instrument or PC). They are exceptionally well-suited for the transmission of low level electrical signals, such as those from thermocouples, extensometer gauges and strain gauges, as well as transducers to measure oscillation and acceleration.
